Wherever possible we incorporate the arts. Music, Dance, Visual and Language arts power what we do. Kids love to be immersed in the creative process; whether it's online, mathematics, a picture or a dramatic production so alongside most of what we do or integral to it is a creative process. We have employed a full time art teacher who takes classrooms across the school for art that aligns with current inquiries. Similarly we have employed a full time, “Wild Skills”,teacher. This teachers job is to build confidence, risk-taking and “can do” skills
In our art sessions, tamariki dive into a world of colour, creativity, and imagination! We begin by exploring colour theory through painting, mixing, blending, and experimenting to discover how colours can tell stories and express feelings.
Each term, we explore our inquiry topics through art, using a wide range of fun materials such as paint, pastel, clay, and collage. Our young artists create work that connects to what we’re learning across the school.
Senior tamariki also have the opportunity to contribute to large-scale art installations that brighten our kura and leave behind a little piece of themselves, a creative legacy that will be enjoyed for years to come.
Art at our kura is all about curiosity, problem-solving, and exploring new ways of thinking. It’s a space where tamariki can express who they are, connect with others, and use their creativity to help make the world a more colourful and meaningful place.
Culture
Our cultural life is underpinned and built daily on our five Values: Respect, Responsibility, Risk-taking, Resilience and Reflection.
We want all of our children to be able to express their own culture and be familiar with the dance and song of many cultures. We have kapa haka, and Pasifika cultural performance groups.
As we are able to, we offer alternative cultural dance opportunities. We believe it is absolutely necessary to balanced schooling, indeed for a balanced life to have all children engaged in dance and other cultural opportunities.
